How to save an Instagram Reel on an iPhone

Saving a Reel on iPhone is not hard, but the file lands in Files rather than Photos, which is where most people get stuck.

Copy the right link

Open the Reel in the Instagram app and tap the paper-plane icon.
Choose "Copy link". Do not use a screenshot of the URL: the link carries the post id that identifies the video.
Open the downloader page, paste the link and confirm the preview matches the Reel you meant.

Where the file goes in Safari

Safari does not save videos straight into Photos. The download lands in the Files app, under Downloads on your iPhone or in iCloud Drive, depending on your settings.

To get it into your camera roll, open Files, long-press the video, choose Share and then Save Video. From there it behaves like anything you filmed yourself.

If nothing seems to happen

Check the download arrow next to the address bar in Safari. The file is often already there.
A Reel from a private account cannot be saved: the video is never served to a request without a session.
On a slow connection the file may still be transferring. Larger Reels take a moment before they appear.

Android and desktop

Chrome on Android saves straight to the Downloads folder and the video shows up in the gallery on its own, so there is no extra step.

On a computer the file goes wherever your browser puts downloads. From there it is a normal MP4 that any player or editor will open.
